Let Prayer Look Different

If your prayer life looks and feels different right now, I want to encourage you: let it.

Sidenote, if it feels like it has no life and you’ve been wanting to get that spark back, I created a prayer reset for you, and you can find it here. When you sign up, you’ll receive daily prompts, scriptures and themes to focus on for the day.. We start July 19.

But, before you start that challenge, I want you to remember this:

Your prayer life may look different than it used to… and that’s okay.

You’re older.
You have more experiences.
You have grown and matured.

Maybe there was a season where you knew every worship song, and now you find yourself enjoying prayer in silence.

Maybe there was a time when prayer looked sacred and formal, but now it’s on the go with you in the car.

The key is allowing your prayer life to grow and change, just as you do through the different seasons of your life.

I remember when I took having a prayer closet seriously. I mean, I was committed: my prayer journal in hand, body laid out across a blanket, praying for an hour just to spend time with God every morning.

Then came a season where I could barely get out of bed.

And if I’m honest, guilt and shame beat me up over the faith I felt like I used to have.

But a dear friend reminded me of something that changed the way I saw prayer:

God could meet me pillow-side just as easily as He met me laid out in my prayer closet.

The way I prayed changed, but His love didn’t.

His presence never wavered.

His care remained the same.

You may feel inadequate in your faith because you feel distant, because you have questions, or because your belief feels shaken. But God still desires a relationship with you. He still wants to hear from you.

So maybe your prayer isn’t fiery right now.

That’s okay.

Bring your questions.
Hand Him your doubts.
Surrender your unbelief.
Admit that you’re angry.

God can handle your honesty.

There are a thousand reasons our prayer lives can change and ultimately they will. But the invitation is to keep the lines of communication open with your Heavenly Father.

If you’re ready to reconnect, this reset is for you, you can join it here.

And if you don’t reset alongside me and others, that’s okay too. Start where you are. Take it one day at a time.

Maybe you pray in the shower.
Maybe it’s in your car.
Maybe it’s while you’re walking through the grocery store.
Maybe prayer used to be more loud, but now it looks like gratitude at the end of the night or a simple conversation throughout your day.

Whatever your prayer looks like, keep talking.

God is listening.

He is with you in every season, and He meets you where you are.

Have a beautiful week.

Scripture

Jeremiah 33:3
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."
