How to Walk by Faith Without Ignoring Reality

Having big faith is surreal. It’s unlike anything. It’s like living on a high but it’s just with God.

Then real life hits. And when what you expected life to be has a big enough gap between that and reality yours takes a hit. Hope deflates. Expectation dwindles. Picking up the pieces feels nearly impossible.

As a believer in Jesus, we have the Spirit, but we operate in this world. And it’s often a cold place.

Especially when you grow up with idealistic or fantasy-like view points. Perspective on life gets shaky real fast.

But, at the same time we know life is practical. Living too far on the reality spectrum removes room for God to show up. Life can seem to have no purpose.

So how do we balance living by faith and being practical?

  1. Know your role. Decipher what is God’s  and what is beyond you no matter how hard you try. Give god things to God and let Him work it out. And at the same time do your part. You can pray, work, give and do the thing God told you to do. Take the action you can and leave the rest to Him.

  2. Rest spiritually. There are actually 7 types of rest that I just learned about, but some of us aren’t resting in the spirit. We say we trust God but then we’re back to worrying how it all works out. If you did your part, trust God to do his and rest.

  3. Stay in prayer. This is conversation with God, not just repeated tactical prayers. Be in communion with God too to know when to move, pause, rest, shift.

Finding the balance of living life by faith and operating effectively in real life takes some practice. But as you continue to live take each moment as a chance to commune with God. With each action go back to Him. You will find your flow. And if you’re reigniting your faith, you will discover it anew.

Give yourself grace as you find your new balance while living in awe of where God shows Himself in your life and how you partner together for a life well worth living.
