God Will Never Leave You

When was the last time you felt alone?

Dark, hard and lonely seasons have a way of making you feel trapped with no way out. 

Recently, I did a study on Hagar (Genesis 16:6-13; 21:13-21) and I was encouraged about who God is even when we are at our lowest. 

He is the God who sees. 

He is the God who hears.

He is the God who comforts.

He is the God who provides.

He is the God who makes a way. 

And Hagar’s story isn’t even elaborate yet God’s character is on full display.

If you don’t know, Hagar was a slave. Who also ran away and was lost. God found her and gave her a promise about her future and her son’s legacy. This is the very much abbreviated version. 

But the point is, she was supposed to be nobody. God called her by name. She wasn’t even looking for God. He showed up for her anyway. 

And it doesn’t stop there.

Hagar goes back. Has her son and eventually is forced to leave the place she was running from. In her despair, God hears her again. Shows up for her again. Reminds her of the promise. Gives her provision for her immediate need. 

You may find yourself lost, alone, desperate and in need. Let Hagar’s story remind you:

God has never left you.

It may be hard. 

It may be tough.

You may even feel at your brink.

But your story is not done just because it feels overwhelming and near the end. 

If you will call on God, trust Him, and remember that He showed up for you before, then believe that He will do it again.

It may not be perfect.

Or how you imagined.

It could be bigger.

Or it may be just enough. 

But you will get what you need. 

Be encouraged by Hagar to know that God is still a God who shows up. 

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” - Genesis 16:13
