Mid-Year Reset: How to Refocus Your Goals When Life Gets Hard
Today is the first day of June, which means we are halfway through the year. Because it is the sixth month, it’s also a time where a lot of people reset. They review their goals, look back at what they said they wanted to do in the new year, adjust, then pivot if needed.
But sometimes that reset feels heavy.
Especially now. Externally, there is so much going on in the world, on top of taking care of our families. Then we deal with ourselves internally with the desire to improve, get better, and be more disciplined. And sometimes it just doesn't turn out the way we would like.
We don't have the energy. We don't have the willpower. We don't have the push. We lack the motivation we once had. All we have now is just enough to make it through today.
And if your only goal is to be encouraged enough to make it through today, then I completely understand. I’m letting you know you got this. And that's enough.
But if there are some areas of your life that you also want to improve, can I encourage you with something small?
Sometimes it's not about making big leaps. Sometimes it's just about doing something.
I've been trying to get a better grip on my weight for the past few years, and I really thought this year was going to be the year. I signed up for bootcamp, lost 5 pounds the first month, and then it all went downhill. My past injury flared up and hasn’t let up since. So now, I can’t go bootcamp hard. I had to stop my classes. I can't do intense workouts right now at all. What I can do is walk. I can get on the treadmill for 20 to 30 minutes… and sometimes, that's all I can do.
So whatever that looks like for you, do it. Make your move. Make your pivot. Make your change. Adjust yourself. You don't have to create a whole new routine or rearrange your entire life. Sometimes it's just about doing what you can, with what you have.
Half the year has flown by, but half the year is still ahead of you and so is everything you're capable of. Give yourself permission to start small. Take that walk. Make that pivot. Do the small thing. The goal was never perfection, it was always progress. Any step forward, no matter how small, is still a step in the right direction.
You got this!
